What: There will be a public hearing on SB 271 or the BPA Bill.  This legislation will ensure that children's bottles or cups made or sold in Wisconsin are BPA-free, and that products are clearly labeled as such.

BPA or Bisphenol-A is an estrogen-like chemical commonly found in polycarbonate (clear) plastics.  BPA has been linked to learning disabilities, breast cancer, testicular cancer, miscarriage, and other health conditions.  BPA can affect human development and has been found in 93% of Americans tested.

If passed, this legislation would provide the same penalties to the manufacturers and retailers of products containing BPA as those in Wisconsin’s current Hazardous Substances Act.

When: Tuesday, November 10, 2009, 11:05 AM
Where: Wisconsin State Capitol, RM 201 SE

Who: The Senate Committee on Small Business, Emergency Preparedness, Technical Colleges, and Consumer Protection
