Hearing on School Conferences Bill: February 17th
Date and Time: 10:00 a.m., February 17th
Place: 300 SE, State Capitol, Madison
Committee: Senate Children & Families and Workforce Development
Bill Number: SB 86
The Senate Education Committee will be holding a hearing on SB 468 which will bring Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) into schools and reduce the use of aversive interventions, such as seclusion and restraint, and make their use safer, if they must be used.
Anyone can testify at the hearing. It is best if your testimony is no longer than 5 minutes, although you can submit as much written testimony as you desire. It is helpful if your testimony talks about how this legislation will make school better for your child, or the children you care about. Of course, if your child has been secluded and/or restrained at school, it is important to let legislators know that, but then it will be helpful to tell them how this bill will improve the situation for your child in the future.
Disability Rights Wisconsin will host a hospitality room at the Concourse Hotel to help you with any questions you have about testifying. Food will be available in the hospitality room.
If you cannot make it to the hearing, but wish to have your views known by the committee, please send your testimony to Senator John Lehman, Chair of the Senate Education Committee on or before Feb. 18th. You can e-mail your testimony to him at Sen.Lehman@legis.wisconsin.gov.
