The Wisconsin Statewide Parent Educator Initiative (WSPEI) is pleased to announce a Request for Proposals (RFP) for Parents in Partnership (PIP) and Youth in Partnership with Parents for Empowerment (YiPPE) for 2012-2013.

PIP is seeking groups of 12-25 parents and other caregivers to attend five weekend sessions throughout the year to share information and resources; hear from statewide speakers about issues that are important to individuals with disabilities; and enhance their skills for working in partnership with service providers, public schools, and community agencies. YiPPE is seeking a group of 20-25 youth with disabilities ages 15-20, along with their parents, to attend five weekend sessions throughout the year to learn about effective self-advocacy, communication strategies, future planning, and available resources for students in transition.

Successful applicants will have trained facilitators lead the group with support from a PIP coordinator; coordination of local and statewide speakers based on the needs of the group, useful books, materials and resources, support of parent-professional collaboration by offering the opportunity to bring parents and school staff together during one of the weekend trainings.

PIP is free of charge to participating parents. YiPPE requires a commitment of funding sources to cover the cost for the youth part of the program.

Application deadline: February 28, 2012
