HOT TOPIC: SECLUSION AND RESTRAINT IN SCHOOLS
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction provides guidance for school districts regarding seclusion and restraint. Both are very hot topics in school-based programs and should only be used as a last resort by staff trained in a program such as CPI’s - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. WI DPI offers directives for the use of seclusion and restraint in Special Educational Programs which includes sample forms for specific documentation of incidents. In addition to the directives, there is also information on how to include physical restraint and seclusion in a child’s IEP. Read more about this hot topic at: http://www.dpi.wi.gov/sped/sbseclusion.html
