Join an Existing Coaltion
Presently around Wisconsin, people with disabilities, family members, providers, and other advocates are developing and strengthening county People Can't Wait coalitions. The purpose of these coalitions is to improve the lives of people with disabilities by creating and supporting the disability advocacy movement. People Can't Wait Coalitions provide a place for planful systems change, up-to-date legislative and budget information, and training opportunities.
Coalition activities will vary by membership and community needs. However, several coalitions are planning election activities such as voter registration and voting drives, as well as sponsoring and assisting with candidate forums. Other activities include meeting and sharing personal stories with legislators and developing relationship with county elected officials. For more ideas on advocacy activities see DAWN's Advocacy Tools section.
