Assistance for Needy Families (TANF):
Temporary assistance for Needy Families (TANF) replaced the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program. TANF provides funds to states to provide cash grants to families, child care subsidies, and other services. The law also determines work requirements, eligibility, and other policies. Many families receiving TANF have a member with a disability.
