Question before voters in November 2006:
“ Marriage. Shall section 13 of article XIII of the constitution be created to provide that only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state and that a legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized in this state?”WCDD OPPOSES. Families with a member with a disability could be hurt if this amendment passes for many reasons, including denial of rights to make health care decisions for partners or children born to partners; health insurance cut off for children or adults with disabilities if currently covered by partners; and direct support workers forced to find other employment because health insurance is provided by partners

[Legislative
Memo]
This referendum will not change the state constitution. Legislation to have a death penalty would still have to go through the regular legislative process in the next session.Question before voters in November 2006:
“ Should the death penalty be enacted in the State of Wisconsin or cases involving a person who is convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, if the conviction is supported by DNA evidence?”WCDD OPPOSES. People with learning or cognitive disabilities could be manipulated into committing a murder by other persons. The accuracy of the standards for competency is open to question. Prosecutors and police may not know how to fairly question people with learning, cognitive, or mental illnesses. People with disabilities and/or mental illnesses may not be able to communicate with and help their defense attorneys and get a fair trial.
