Wisconsin Lion’s Camp Summer Recreation Activities

Since its beginning in 1956, the Wisconsin Lions Camp has been dedicated to providing a quality camping experience free of charge to Wisconsin residents with disabilities.  They serve youth with mild cognitive disabilities and with Type I and Type II Diabetes, as well as youth and adults who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing or Blind and Visually Impaired. The facilities are handicapped accessible. They provide opportunities for swimming, boating, hiking, archery, rock climbing, biking and more. Each week contains typical camp activities, including: nature hikes, campfires, games and skill building activities like the climbing wall, archery course and ropes courses. Here is a brief listing of their 2012 Summer Camp Schedule:

  • May 30 – June 7: Staff Training
  • June 10 – 15: Adults who are Blind or Visually Impaired
  • June 17 – 22: Children with Mild Cognitive Disabilities
  • June 24 – 29: Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • July 1 – 6: Children who are Deaf of Hard of Hearing
  • July 8 – 13: Children with Mild Cognitive Disabilities
  • July 15 – 20: Children with Mild Cognitive Disabilities
  • July 22 – 27: Children who are Blind or Visually Impaired
  • July 29 – Aug. 3: Children with Type I and II Diabetes
  • Aug. 5 – 10: Children with Type I and II Diabetes
  • Aug. 12 – 17: Adults 18-25 w/Mild Cognitive Disabilities
  • Aug. 20 – 24: Adults who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
