Non-Emergency Medical Transportation is the Focus

Many people with disabilities in Wisconsin have had challenges with non-emergency medical transportation provided through the Medical Assistance program.   Since July 2011, (September 2012 in the southeast part of the state) transportation has been provided through a statewide service. LogistiCare was awarded the contract to coordinate transportation across the state. However, the company recently announced it will end the contract in February of 2013. The company has been asked to continue offering services until a new contractor is in place.

A new Request for Proposal (RFP) will be released by the Department of Health Services to find another transportation coordinator. The RFP will have all the required duties for the next transportation broker. The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Alliance is trying to make sure the RFP has the requirements that will meet the needs of riders.

The Alliance is sponsoring a day to meet with legislators and have a press conference in Madison on Wednesday, December 19, at the State Capitol. The Alliance is asking legislators to support their work on the RFP. More information will be available at the Best Western Inn on the Park prior to the rally and press conference.
