Show your legislator the benefit of community integrated employment for people with disabilities!

Participate in the 2012 Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign and have your legislator visit you at work!

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). To celebrate, the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities (BPDD) is conducting the Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign. Through the campaign, Wisconsin workers with disabilities who love their jobs get to show their legislator the importance of working in the community at competitive wages.

Legislative visits to workplaces will happen in October, but don’t wait – sign up now!

People who participate in the campaign will have their legislator visit them briefly at work. Students in transition who have paid jobs are also encouraged to participate in the campaign. Check out some of the great visits from last year’s campaign!

BPDD will provide support to participants by facilitating initial contact with their legislator, scheduling their legislator’s visit, and assisting with any other logistics.

New this year: participants will receive a Take Your Legislator to Work t-shirt to wear during their visit! Also, participants will receive the 2012 NDEAM poster to display at their workplace.

BPDD is also looking for Regional Coordinators and facilitators to work with individuals in their region to coordinate visits.

If you would like to participate and have your legislator visit you at work, submit a Participant Information Form. The deadline to submit the form is Monday, Sept. 17. But sign up now, because many legislators will be very busy in the lead-up to the elections in November. Their calendars will fill up quickly.
