Gretchen is the BPDD’s PR & Communications intern for the summer. A native of Kimberly, Wisconsin, Gretchen just completed her sophomore year at UW-Madison and is double majoring in Journalism and Mass Communications and History. She spends most of her time competing with the university’s Varsity Lightweight Women’s Rowing Team and also as a campaign coordinator for the ASM Student Election Committee. Gretchen volunteers with the Bookin’ it With Bucky program through the athletic department and has also volunteered with the Wisconsin Historical Society. When she’s not running around campus, Gretchen enjoys sampling every flavor of Babcock Ice Cream and spending time with her friends on the Terrace.
Gretchen developed an interest in working with people with disabilities in high school, when she participated in a Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign. This experience is what initially drew her to apply for the BPDD internship and so she could continue working to improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities. “I hope to help foster relationships that will incorporate people with disabilities into the community and to raise awareness about disability issues. The BPDD has great programs in place and I’m excited to work with them and keep improving the lives of people with disabilities and their communities. ”
