Get Ready for the Self-Determination Conference
Register now for the 2013 Wisconsin Self-Determination Conference! The conference will be held Oct. 29-31, 2013, at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. This will be the sixth year of the conference and the theme is The Six Degrees of Self-Determination. To get an idea of what the conference is all about, check out the video from last year’s conference. This event is sponsored by BPDD and People First Wisconsin.
On Tuesday, Oct. 29, four pre-conference sessions will be held in the afternoon. The sessions will focus on planning for employment after high school, moving into community supported living, person-centered planning, and ethics and boundaries in self-direction. Tuesday evening, the Six Degrees of Networking Kick-Off will bring people together in a creative, fun way, and will help individuals expand their personal and professional networks.
Wednesday, Oct. 30 and Thursday, Oct. 31 will feature powerful keynote presentations from consultant and entertainer Peter Leidy, self-advocate and Advocacy Director of People First Wisconsin Cindy Bentley, and DHS Deputy Administrator Beth Wroblewski. And, as always, the conference will feature many sessions that will provide participants with excellent learning opportunities.
On Wednesday night – back by popular demand – singer/songwriter Peter Leidy will emcee the Talent Showcase and everyone is invited to share their talents! Also, artwork from the Mosaic Art Contest will be on display throughout the conference and award winners are invited to a luncheon to receive their prizes for their original artwork expressing self-determination.
Any interested participants with financial hardships can apply for a scholarship to the conference. Learn more about the conference in this year’s brochure. There are also opportunities to get involved through conference sponsorship or by having an exhibit table.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, connect, and make a change! Early Bird registration ends Aug. 30. The deadline to request a scholarship is Monday, Sept. 30. The deadline to register for the conference is Thursday, Oct. 10.
