BPDD provides many opportunities for people with disabilities, their family members, and professionals to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Wisconsin. Below is a quick snapshot of current and upcoming BPDD events and opportunities.
Wisconsin Partners in Policymaking is currently accepting applications for its 2013 class. This training program is designed for family members of children and youth with developmental disabilities ages birth to 21, and individuals with developmental disabilities. Check out a video about Partners on BPDD’s YouTube Channel. The deadline to apply is Sept. 1, 2012.
The Mosaic Art Contest is an art contest for self-advocates, 18 years and older, who live in Wisconsin and want to express what self-determination means to them. The theme of the 2012 contest is “The Art of Self-Determination” and 1st place award winners will receive a New iPad. The deadline to submit artwork is 12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012.
To celebrate October’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month, BPDD will once again conduct the Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign. People who participate in the campaign will have their legislator visit them at work sometime during the month of October. BPDD is seeking Regional Coordinators, participants, and facilitators for the campaign. More information about the campaign is available on the BPDD website.
The 2012 Wisconsin Self-Determination Conference will be held Oct. 29-31, 2012 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The conference provides a great opportunity for individuals, advocates, family members, and providers to learn more about self-determination in Wisconsin. Registration for the conference is open.
