October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and BPDD has been actively working to raise awareness about disability employment in Wisconsin.
BPDD’s awareness project, the Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign, is in full swing. During the campaign, legislators visit with their constituents with disabilities who have community-integrated jobs at a competitive wage. Many people with disabilities from around the state are participating in the campaign and seizing the opportunity to show their legislator why working in the community is good for everybody. There is still time to get involved in the campaign.
For the first week of October, BPDD had a display at the Capitol Rotunda. Eight posters highlighted important facts and stories to build awareness about disability employment. One of the posters was Governor Scott Walker’s Proclamation to make October Disability Employment Awareness Month throughout Wisconsin.
For the October issue of their official magazine, Wisconsin Business Voice, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce collaborated with BPDD to highlight disability employment. The two articles focus on employment for youth with disabilities and the Take Your Legislator to Work Campaign.
