Create Change – Events, Trainings & Grants
Disability advocates will have many opportunities in the coming weeks and months to attend events, participate in trainings, and apply for grants that are all designed to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Wisconsin. The following opportunities are provided by the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities (BPDD).
Wisconsin Integrated Employment Summit
Are you interested in improving employment outcomes for people with disabilities? If so, register now for the first Wisconsin Integrated Employment Summit on May 22 in Wisconsin Dells! The summit is open to everyone. The summit will provide an overview of innovative employment practices and success stories from throughout the state of Wisconsin that are improving employment outcomes for people with disabilities. Participants will also have an opportunity to meet in small groups to brainstorm and develop ideas for increasing employment for people with disabilities in their region. The summit will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The deadline to register is Friday, May 18. Let’s Get to Work Request for Proposals
Let’s Get to Work is a five-year, systems change project that will lead to improved community employment outcomes for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in transition. The project will award grants to 3-4 school districts in Wisconsin. The grants are designed to help school teams carry out promising approaches for supporting youth with disabilities more fully in their schools, workplaces, and communities. The grants offer funding and a coaching team (technical support) and will start September 1, 2012. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, May 23. To learn more about the project, visit the BPDD website.
SDS Network Event
The Self-Directed Supports (SDS) Network is designed to connect people and ideas to propel self-direction in Wisconsin. At the SDS Network Event, participants will learn about innovative efforts and share ideas that will help to improve long-term care outcomes for individuals with disabilities and their families. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn and share about how to make the organizations serving them person-centered and outcome-focused. The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Registration will open on Thursday, May 10.
2012 Statewide Conference on Self-Determination
Save the date! The 2012 Statewide Conference on Self-Determination will be October 29-31 at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. The theme for this year’s conference is “The Art of Self-Determination.” Check out the video for the 2011 conference on the BPDD’s YouTube Channel.
