Ask them to work with JFC to improve the lives of people with disabilities!

Over the next few weeks, the Joint Finance Committee (JFC) will be voting on state budget items that will affect people with disabilities and their families in Wisconsin for years to come. JFC will be addressing issues like:

• Employment
• Family Care & IRIS Expansion
• Long-Term Supports for Children
• Medicaid & Health Care
• School Vouchers
• Special Education Funding

Right now there are two things you can do as a disability advocate.

First, get educated about the issues that are important to you with the 2013 Priorities for People with Disabilities in Wisconsin series (links above). These policy papers can be used by self-advocates, families, and others in the disability community to better understand the disability issues at stake in the state budget process.

Second, contact your legislators and ask them to support individuals with disabilities.  Your legislators represent you, so tell them about the issues that are important to you. Remind them that they received the 2013 Priorities for People with Disabilities in Wisconsin papers and urge them to use this information to work with the JFC members to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Wisconsin. Learn who your legislators are.

Thank you for being a disability advocate and working with your legislators!
