Bridging the Gap: Creating a Community of Support for Survivors with Disabilities

2012 National Conference on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Against People with Disabilities

About the Conference: The Bridging the Gap: Creating a Community of Support for Survivors with Disabilities conference will take place on October 31 and November 1, 2012 in Louisville, Kentucky. The conference will bring together over 300 professionals from a variety of fields including representatives of anti-domestic and sexual violence service providers, disability service providers, criminal justice professionals, self-advocates from the disability rights movement, and other allied professionals. The conference will highlight promising practices for serving survivors with disabilities; explore emerging issues at the intersection of violence and disability; and foster networking among those working to end violence against people with disabilities.  

The conference will begin on Wednesday, October 31 at 8:30 am and end at 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 1.

Scholarship Information: To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must meet all three of the following criteria:

  • Be a self-advocate (person with a disability).
  • Be unable to attend the conference without financial assistance.
  • Agree to attend the entire conference.

There are a very limited number of scholarships available. Scholarships will be awarded based on the order the application was received, and geographic diversity of applicants. No other scholarships will be offered. Scholarships are non-transferable.  

Scholarships will include waived registration fees, and travel and lodging costs. Vera will assist with air travel and lodging arrangements. If you are awarded a scholarship, cancel your registration or do not attend the conference, you will not receive any reimbursement of costs.
