BPDD Announces Take Your Legislator To Work Campaign
Madison, WI – October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and to highlight this, the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities (BPDD) is organizing the Take your Legislator to Work Campaign.
Throughout the month-long campaign, legislators will visit people with disabilities at their worksites. During the visits, legislators will experience first-hand the value of community-integrated employment at competitive wages for both people with disabilities and the state. When people with disabilities are employed, they contribute to Wisconsin’s economy and use fewer tax-funded public services.
“Many people with disabilities are valued employees who make a difference in the lives of their employers and co-workers,” said Beth Swedeen, BPDD Executive Director. “The Take your Legislator to Work Campaign showcases people’s skills while raising awareness about the importance of competitive-wage work in lifting people out of poverty and allowing them to be contributing members of their communities.”
Members of the media are invited to attend visits. As visits are scheduled in various locations, the BPDD will send out press releases announcing the names of the participants, as well as the time, date, and location of the visits.
